The European Commission has approved Extavia® (interferon beta-1b) for the treatment of early and relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) – the first in a new portfolio of medicines from Novartis that is planned to include both established treatments and innovative therapies for patients with MS. Extavia is the Novartis branded version of interferon beta-1b, a first-line disease-modifying therapy injected every other day for the treatment of MS.

MS Society Calls On MPs To Support New Avenues Of Research, UK May 26, 2008

The MS Society has called on MPs to throw their weight behind the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill, which will be debated in the House of Commons. In a letter addressed to every Member of Parliament, the MS Society is among seven charities asking politicians to support the Bill, which if approved could open new avenues of research into conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS).

In thesurvey, 71 percent of people with MS had at least one concern about how thedisease would affect their relationships; 64 percent said being diagnosedhad a negative impact on their career. To address these concerns, BayerSchering Pharma launched Mastering MS today.

A new study published in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry finds that Prozac, a commonly prescribed antidepressant, may be an agent in slowing down the disease process of the relapsing remitting form of multiple sclerosis (MS).Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the central nervous system. In the relapsing remitting form,new symptoms occur in discrete attacks.
